Deadline for Submission: December 1, 2025
All accepted abstracts will be published in a special issue of the ISG peer-reviewed journal Gerontechnology. By following the format carefully, the publishing process will go smoothly.
Abstract Types
There are two types of abstracts:
Format No.1
For free papers, posters, and individual presentations that are part of a symposium
Format No.2
ONLY if you are the convener of a symposium
Important Note: Individual delegates may only submit a maximum of 3 abstracts for which they are first author. For references use Vancouver style not APA.
Abstract Categories
The published abstracts are grouped into broad categories depending on the main purpose of the technology being described or evaluated:
- Aging and Disability
- Application Fields and Innovative Technology for an Aging Society (e.g. AI, robotics, sensors, Augmentation)
- Healthy Inclusive Environments and Healthy Architecture
- Dementia and Technology
- Ethics and DEI (Diversity, Equality and Inclusion)
- Health and Self-Esteem
- Housing and Daily Living
- Governance, Social Policy, Communication
- Transportation and Personal Mobility
- Work, Leisure and Social Participation
- Other
Submission Process
To submit your abstract, please go to the Gerontechnology journal submission platform
- After login
- Create an account if you do not already have one,
- Click “new submission” then proceed to :
- Start – where you will select the category that you believe is most suitable for your abstract and complete the checklist. Comments to the editor are optional and may be skipped.
- Upload Submission – skip this step it applies to manuscripts not abstracts and go to
- Metadata – here you will provide information about the author(s), provide title and upload the conference abstract you are submitting. While language is asked about it should be noted that English is the language of the conference and that abstracts may only be submitted in English
- Upload Supplementary Files – skip this step and go to
- Confirmation, to finish your submission.
Details about what your abstract should contain and examples are provided below.
Abstract Format Guidelines
Abstract Format No. 1 – For Oral Paper and Poster Presentation
Font Size and Type:
- Use Arial font 9.5 points
- References in Arial 8.5 points (Vancouver style)
Maximum Length:
- One A4-page (approximately 3,200 characters or 500 words)
Structure:
- TITLE OF ABSTRACT (Not to exceed 15 words)
- AUTHORS’ NAMES (initials and family name of each author, e.g., G. Brown, J. Green, P. Black)
- PURPOSE (Statement of the purpose/hypotheses of the presentation)
- METHOD (Summary of the methodology/approach)
- RESULTS AND DISCUSSION (Summary of findings and conclusions. Please make them explicit. Vague statements such as “findings will be presented and discussed” should be avoided)
- KEYWORDS (Up to five may be included)
- MAIN AFFILIATION AND COUNTRY OF FIRST AUTHOR (e.g., Graduate School of Science and Technology, Simon Fraser University, Canada)
In the bottom right corner of the abstract, a table or picture may be placed. Please include title of table/figure. Place caption directly above in the case of a table and directly below in the case of a figure. Use Arial 8.5, Italic. Photos should have a resolution of 300+ dpi.
Abstract Format No. 2 – For Symposia
Conference symposia are aimed at highlighting the best research or practice in a particular field of study. A symposium will last 90 minutes and include three to four speakers and perhaps a discussant who draws out key themes and ideas from the presentations. There is a particular emphasis on international and multidisciplinary perspectives. Convenors should collect individual abstracts and submit them together as one file.
Font Size and Type:
- Use Arial font 9.5 points
- References in Arial 8.5 points (Vancouver style)
Maximum Length:
- One A4-page (approximately 3,200 characters or 500 words)
Structure:
- CONVENER’S NAME (Initials and family name, e.g., M.T. Gray)
- TITLE OF SYMPOSIUM (Not to exceed 15 words)
- NAME OF EACH PRESENTER (First initial and family name)
- COUNTRY OF EACH PRESENTER (in brackets after name)
- ISSUE (Statement of the issues to be addressed)
- CONTENT (Summary of the presentations to be given)
- CONCLUSIONS/ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES (Statement of the conclusions, expected outcome or “product” of the session)
- KEYWORDS (Up to five keywords may be included)
- ADDRESS (Main affiliation and country of convener, e.g., Department of Gerontology, Simon Fraser University, Canada)
- E-MAIL ADDRESS OF CONVENER
